Overview AR is uncharted territory as far as game design is concerned. Designers lack control and prior knowledge of the player's physical space, which poses unique challenges. Many game genres and mechanics are not readily adaptable to AR. The opportunities for new, creative game ideas are unlimited and there is a large body of technical problems that remain unsolved.Design and technical challenges as experienced after a year of game prototype development on Microsoft's HoloLens will be discussed in detail. Demonstrations of games (including an educational game) will be shown. Opportunities and ideas for novel work, especially pertaining to game mechanics and analysis of physical environments, will be discussed.
