Overview: The recent success of games with strong narratives such as Bioshock Infinite, The Last of Us and The Walking Dead points to a future where game narrative is viewed as an asset, not an add-on. Unfortunately, the often adopted Three-Act Structure - Hollywood's classical story paradigm - meshes so poorly with game design that it has become a roadblock to narrative development. This talk will explore an alternative paradigm, Sequence Structure, which melds story seamlessly with game elements such as mission objectives, experientiality and gameplay loops, paving the way for even stronger narrative in the next generation of games.
