Overview:

Editors can do much more for writers than copyedit. They can also check for legal and ratings compliance and lead narrative project management so writers can focus on writing. Melanie Henry will present three case studies that show how Microsoft Studios editors helped create a profanity filter, manage an out-of-control voiceover project, and get one million words through a narrow writing/editing pipeline into the waiting hands of localizers. The lecture will end by looking at a smattering of geopolitical almost-accidents caught by editors--why things really didn't work for a global audience and showing why it helps to have nonwriters check for such things.
