Overview: You received your first publishing agreement; how do you decide if it's fair? Indies are at an informational disadvantage when negotiating with publishers as there is little public information on what publishing agreement terms are market-standard versus outliers. For the first time ever, a comprehensive survey of over 30 recent indie publishing agreements has been undertaken and this session presents the results through a statistical analysis of publishing agreement terms. Attendees will learn the meaning of key publishing agreement clauses and gain an understanding of what the average publishing agreement looks like in 2020. They will learn the average advance amount, how common a 50/50 revenue share is (hint: it's not the average), how frequently sequel rights are granted and more. It's time for indies to put data to use and counter claims of "don't worry, it's standard".
