Overview: How do you legally protect your intellectual property? This is the problem faced by many developers and publishers alike, and has become the matter of public controversy in any number of disputes, from Oculus Risk/Zenimax to Candy Saga and similar disputes. In this talk we will examine the legal landscape for the law of ideas, whether they remain as mere concepts or become a part of your IP portfolio. We will take a look at how intellectual property is defined, how it is conventionally protected, and how local, state, federal and international governing bodies regulate and enforce those laws. Most importantly, you will obtain a best practices "tool kit" that will help you protect your own ideas and the ideas of others as you take your game from concept to completion.
