Overview: Beyond the regular (and mostly exaggerated) attacks the game industry is getting regarding addiction, loot boxes, or violence, it is important for developers to get a clear understanding of their ethical responsibilities as content providers. Discussions around ethics in the game industry are still too rare. This talk proposes to analyze what scientific research says about the potential problems video games can create in terms of addiction, violence, loot boxes, and dark patterns (without the fear-mongering) and will invite attendees to think on where the industry should draw the line.
