Overview: Many educators struggle with making video game theory feel relevant to game development students. In this talk, based on his experience teaching game studies at MIT, NYU, and elsewhere, Jesper Juul will identify the barriers that prevent practical-oriented students from using game studies to develop games. The lecture then presents concrete tools for overcoming these issues, and provides well-tested and exciting exercises that will concretely help game development students make games, while piquing their interest in theory.
