Product Manager (PM) is a role that some years ago didn't exist in the game industry. Today, it is one of the most influential positions, specially if when talking about the F2P mobile market. Still, for most game designers and professionals not in this market, the responsibilities and purpose of this role are unknown. At the same time, PMs without a game design background usually don't really understand the game designers' area of expertise. This brings a lot of misunderstandings and unnecessary friction.Lucas Gonzalez, game designer for over 10 years, and former PM at Zeptolab, will describe his experience (and those of other PMs) becoming a Product Manager, sharing the difficulties found, and detailing what each role can learn from each other in order to do their work best, while everyone is pursuing a common goal: creating a successful game.
