Overview: Character designers and costume designers have the same job: both concentrate on expressing the character's personality, status and background and the production-specific features such as era, climate, and environmental conditions through character's appearance. Since highly realistic depictions of reality are achievable with the current technology, the traditional skills of costume design can prove useful in developing a realistic game character. This talk will help you think like a costume designer: to acknowledge and employ the narrative potential of clothing and improve the realism level of wearable assets by keeping in mind the material behaviour on a human body, clothing construction, and fit. In addition, this talk will define the difference between fashion and costume design in game context and points out the importance of choosing the right approach for your production.
