Overview: Difficulties in communication go hand in hand with creating complex software on a deadline, measuring subjective goals, leading people, and managing expectations. These were all regular themes in Game Developer Postmortems. Developers have identified communication failures and stated the goal of improving communication in postmortems and GDC hallways since the dawn of the industry. The futility of trying to defeat all risks inherent in running projects has led many in the craft to develop expensive, barrel-aged coping mechanisms and to adopt phrases like Minimum Viable Product, yet great games continue to be made. This session is for Producers who want to master the communication skills needed to help teams avoid common mistakes and to make the best games. Or take the path of Minimum Viable Producer, it's certainly easier.
